The Norway Post.
6. November 2000.
The Norwegian Foreign Office is planning to re-establish its diplomatic
relations with Cuba, VG reports.
It is still considering what type of mission to open.
Norway broke all diplomatic contacts with Cuba following Fidel Castro's coup
in 1958. The Labour government now wants to re-establish relations.
-We have registered an increased Norwegian interest in Cuba, and the country
is playing an increasingly important role in the Third World. We therefore think
it is important to strengthen the bilateral relations between our two nations,
says Undersecretary of State Raymond Johansen to VG.
