HAVANA, October 31 (Oswaldo de Céspedes, CPI) - Ultra, a dollar store
in central Havana, had a special on Canadian mayonnaise on October 27, at 2.55
dollars, down from 3.75 dollars, a jar. The special sale was no bargain; the
product at the top of the jar consisted of foam and the mayo was spoiled.
Afterwards, the store set a wheel barrow next to the cash register to
deposit the jars as customers brought them back. "What they should be doing
is selling good mayonnaise at accessible prices in the neighborhood stores,"
said an indignant old woman.
