CIEGO DE ÁVILA, May 25 (Juan Carlos González Leyva, FAPDH) A husband and wife duo who used to sing for tips from patrons at a local cafeteria have been banned from the establishment.
Aliuska Peña Delgado and Julio Lien Romero, both blind, had set up shop in a corner at Mi Café, in the city of Morón, in this central Cuban province. There they would sing for tips patrons would drop in a glass in front of them. The government-appointed manager of the
establishment recently told them he had been fined 1500 pesos for allowing them to sing there and they would have to move on.
The couple have no other source of income and get no Social Assistance. The National Association for the Blind not only offers no help but supported their eviction from the cafeteria.
