Mortadella Causes Food Poisoning

MATANZAS, May 22 (Sergio González Suárez-Inclán, Movimiento por la Democracia "Pedro Luis Boitel") – Residents of three towns in Colón municipality in this province bought mortadella under the government’s food rationing system that has evidently made people sick.

On May 17, residents of Giraldo Díaz, Guamuta, and Ponina were able to buy mortadella under the government rationing program that was decomposing. "Ever since they unloaded it, it smelled bad and had a greenish color," said one resident.

Shortly thereafter, there was an outbreak of diarrhea in the towns, made worse by the lack of medicines in the pharmacies.

As to why anyone would eat the mortadella, the lady who said it looked and smelled bad explained: "We never get anything. We are hungry and above all, we want to eat meat."
