HAVANA, May 17 (Ohalis Víctore, Cuba Voz) Five of seven rafters who were intercepted at sea by a Cuban coast guard vessel have been confined at State Security headquarters in Havana since May 13. The other two are under house arrest.
They all face trial for "illegal exit from the country" and sanctions of one to four years in jail and fines of 300 to 1000 pesos.
One of the rafters, Violeta Rivero Reyes, said the coast guard officers who returned them to the island assured them that they would be sent home and there would be no reprisals taken against them.
