HAVANA, May 12 (Lucas Garve, CPI) First grade students at the Camilo Cienfuegos school in Pinar del Río are growing weary of indoctrination sessions during the school day.
The students are reluctant to go to school, asking their parents to let them stay home. They say they are asked daily to explore political topics by rehashing the daily National TV Newscast.
Political indoctrination in schools has been on the increase in the last few years, but since November 1999 it has reached fever pitch in all schools in the country.
Meanwhile, parents demand that more attention be paid to teaching basic subject matter and not political affairs.
