SANTIAGO DE CUBA, May 11 (Luis Alberto Rivera, APLO) - An officer of the Ministry of the Interior beat up a motorist in a motorcycle who crossed his path as he traveled along the Morro road here. The officer also drew his service pistol and threatened bystanders.
Officer Edgardo Matos Suárez, who is the chauffer of the Interior Ministry delegate in this region of eastern Cuba, said "I'll face with my gun anyone who interferes in what I do" as he waved his pistol at bystanders.
Some witnesses remembered that two months ago the officer assaulted two youths who were driving a horse-drawn cart, accusing them of getting in his way.
The man in the motorcycle, Guillermo Leyva Legrat, 37, complained to the Popular Tribunal here, but he got scant satisfaction. Officer Matos was fined 200 pesos.
