Sugar Harvest Faced Grave Difficulties

CIEGO DE AVILA, May 5 (Rubén Antonio Mulet, PSD) - This year's sugar harvest has faced difficulties of every kind: lack of fuel, spare parts and accessories, scarcity of necessary equipment and low yield from the cane fields.

The Uruguay sugar mill, in SanctiSpíritus, central Cuba, lacked the hoses to link rail cars used to transport cane to the mill.

The Ecuador mill in Ciego de Ávila, also in central Cuba, has experienced chronic problems with the wheels in the rail cars. Other mills could only operate a few hours a day due to the scarcity of raw cane.
