MATANZAS, May 4 (Rodolfo Dámian, Cuba Press) - A freight train heading to Bayamo, in easternmost Cuba, derailed last Thursday at a railroad crossing in Mocha, about 12 miles (20 kilometers) from the city of Matanzas, western Cuba.
Reportedly the accident was caused by excess speed and failure of the operator to observe road instructions.
The train consisted of five cars. Two, transporting tires for the Eastern Army, were not damaged. The other three, carrying chick peas and flour, were destroyed. There were no casualties. The local press took no notice of the accident.
