Theft Of Fan Nets Him 30 Year Sentence

VILLA CLARA, May 3 (Isabel Rey, Cuba Press) - A man was sentenced to 30 years in jail for stealing a fan, another got 26 years and 8 months for the theft of a radio, and a third got 13 years for taking a bicycle.

The Provincial People's Court in Santa Clara, capital of Villa Clara province in central Cuba, handed down the sentences to Raúl Armas, for the theft of the fan, Santos Rivalta for the radio and Wilberto Torres Pérez for the bicycle. All had previous records of theft.

The sentences were in accordance with Public Law 87, of 1999 which increased the severity of sanctions for a variety of crimes.
