HAVANA, May 2 (Carmelo Díaz Fernández, APSIC) - The students from two secondary schools in the municipality of Artemisa, province of Havana, have been sent to pick potatoes in the fields for seven weeks, under the school in the countryside program of the Cuban government.
The students, all between the ages of 13 and 14, labor from 7 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon. According to the report, some who are behind in their studies don't start picking until 1 p.m. Six students must pick two furrows per day. The furrows are from 1,640 to 1,968 feet (500 to 600
meters) in length.
