HAVANA, April 27 (Moraima Pires, Grupo Decoro) - The Cuban Agriculture Ministry has decided to allow about 200,000 head of cattle to feed in the rice fields as a means of combating the effects of the present drought on the livestock.
Previously, the government diverted rice and plantain fields to tobacco in Granma province, eastern Cuba. In favoring dollar-producing activities like beef and tobacco, the agricultural authorities are neglecting rice, which is the staple in the Cuban diet.
