PINAR DEL RIO, March 28 (Bertha Peraza, APO) - Waiting customers at a butcher shop here became involved in an altercation when four inspectors stopped sales to perform a "unit control," an audit of rationed goods.
Customers yelled "we are hungry" and "free the shop assistants" when sales were stopped. They had been waiting in line to receive their allocation of "texturized ground meat," based on fish meal, and mortadella. They also voiced complaints about the poor quality of
the food products available.
Meat derivates had not been available in this region for two months.
