HAVANA, March 22 (Sonia González, APLC) - State inspectors and police
last week imposed fines ranging up to 1,500 pesos and confiscated the goods of
more than a hundred self-employed merchants in Havana.
The merchants were expelled from their usual places in the principal streets
of the city. Among the affected were several blind and otherwise handicapped
persons.
The sweep operation was carried out by police in patrol cars and buses, in
which those who resisted were taken away.
