HAVANA, March 14 (Héctor Maseda, Grupo de Trabajo Decoro) - Tenth and eleventh grade students at the "Lenin" Vocational School are forced to participate daily in the "open forums" the government holds for political ends.
The students are transported to these acts after their regular ten or eleven class periods, at the end of the afternoon school sessions. The students complain of being tired and hungry. "We wake up at 6 a.m. and sometimes we don't return until 1 a.m. We don't get enough sleep."
"Only the twelth grade students are exempt from these extracurricular activities, because they are preparing to enter the university and are expected to have excellent command of their subject matters," said Roberto de Miranda, the president of the Independent Teachers of Cuba.
