HAVANA, March 13 (Graciela Alfonso) - The price of liquified petroleum gas will go up to almost three times its present level on April 1st, according to officials of the Cuban oil monopoly, Cuba Petróleo.
Employees of the sales outlets of the fuel have distributed flyers which announce that the 10 kilogram tanks will go up from the present 2.45 pesos to 7 pesos, and the 45 kilogram tanks from 11 to 31.50 pesos.
The text compares the rise in prices to international levels, referring to prices in Chile, Argentina, Perú, Brasil, Haiti and Guyana.
Low-income consumers, however, were unhappy with the news. "Take another 5 from my 80 peso pension, it doesn't add up," said Enma, a 64-year-old retiree.
