Independent Cooperative Has Good Yuca Harvest

LOMA DEL GATO, Santiago de Cuba, (Jorge Béjar, president of the independent cooperative "Transición") - For the second consecutive year, the independent cooperative "Transición" has achieved good results in the production and commercialization of yuca. After satisfying our own needs, we were able to offer for sale 38 hundredweight of produce.

Our product was well received by the consumers in the area as a result of the lack of a competing supply. Taking into account the need for foodstuffs, production costs and the low income of people in this area, the directors of "Transición" decided to set a price of 45 cents a pound. Other private producers in the area are selling the yuca at one peso a pound, and the State enterprises are selling at 80 cents a pound.

Our policy is to produce at the lowest possible cost, to insure our profitability and make our produce available at reasonable cost to the population.
