CIEGO DE ÁVILA, July 24 (Juan Carlos González, FAPDH) Some of the biggest employers in the central Cuban provinces, from Sancti Spíritus to Camagüey, closed their doors this week. The workers were told that they would be inactive for several months due to lack of
fuel. Some were told they would receive 60% of their normal salaries, others were told to go on vacation; contract labor simply joined the ranks of the unemployed.
Some of the firms that closed are the Siboney cement factory, in Sancti Spíritus; the Ruta Invasora Agropecuaria, in Ciego de Ávila. The agro-industrial rice complex Ruta Invasora de Camagüey is operating at 40% of capacity.
