Residents Pay Taxes For A Service They Don't Get

HAVANA, July 17 (Rev. Ernesto Iturriaga, Cuba Voz) - Some residents of the Martín Pérez district in Havana pay the sewer tax without enjoying the service.

"At the end of the street you can see the broken pipe," said Orlando Socias, adding: "We have appealed to every official entity there is in the last 15 years and we are always told there are no resources or no funds available."

Other residents said that the streets look like rivers at night, and that they pay the tax because they have been told "that way they will have more of a right to demand the service."
