Worker Demoted To Make Way For Official’s Wife

HAVANA, July 12 (Regina del Sol) – A worker in Havana was demoted to a new job at half her salary and her job was given to a government official’s wife.

Nancy Olivares had been working as Service Chief at 231 pesos (about 11 dollars) a month at U/B Enterprises in Marianao, city of Havana, when she was reassigned as a clerk at 111 pesos (a little over 5 dollars) a month.

Ms. Olivares says there had been no complains as to her job performance nor was she given any explanation for the move.

Her job was given to Guadalupe García, 26, the wife of the municipal delegate from Marianao to the Assembly of Popular Power, Cuba’s legislature. Olivares lives with her mother and two daughters in Marianao. She is the only one working in the household.
