Drug Consumption On The Increase In Havana

HAVANA, February 21 (Eduardo G. Estrada, ANC) - Cocaine, crack, and marihuana are becoming increasingly popular in Havana in spite of tough anti-drug laws, said several addicts recently.

The municipalities of San Miguel del Padrón, and La Habana Vieja are centers of crack and marihuana consumption whereas the swank neighborhoods of Vedado and Miramar are the hot spots in the trafficking and consumption of cocaine.

Crack is the drug most often used, smoked in rudimentary home-made pipes, said several addicts interviewed. It is also sprinkled on marihuana cigarettes and smoked that way.

All addicts agreed: "The more drugs we have, the more we consume."
