Ulcer Patients Can Not Obtain Milk

PINAR DEL RIO, February 11 (Alberto Iglesias, Cuba Press) - Ulcer patients in Pinar del Río province, western Cuba, cannot obtain the milk the Public Health Ministry says they must have because the ministry cannot certify their need for the milk.

In order to obtain their share of rationed milk stipulated for their condition by ministry directives, patients must obtain a certificate of need by having an endoscopy at the Abel Santamaría hospital in the capital city of Pinar del Río. The only problem: the equipment has been out of order for weeks. No certificate, no milk.

Juana Rodríguez, one of the afected patients, said: "That shouldn't be. I have a medical certificate that I have had an ulcer for some time, but since they can't do the test because the equipment is broken, I can't get the milk."

Municipal and provincial representatives of the Public Health ministry do not seem to have a solution for the problem. Meanwhile, the patients patiently await their milk.
