Police Attacks Dissidents in Central Cuba

CAIBARIÉN, VILLA CLARA, January 30 (Héctor Trujillo Pis) - Starting on January 27, the Department of State Security (DSE) has used the regular police to repress any dissidents that intended to celebrate the 147th anniversary of the birth of the Cuban national hero, José Martí.

Antonio Ángel Martínez Perdomo, of the National Commission for Human Rights "José Martí" (CNDHJM), was summoned to a police unit, where he was threatened. In other action, Osvaldo Palacios and Santiago Torres were morally mistreated at home by agents of the political police (DSE).

In Placetas, DSE officers showed up at the home of Bertha Antúnez, president of the Civic Resistance Movement "Pedro Luis Boitel," threatening both her and her husband, surrounding her home so that they couldn't attend the public celebration of the anniversary.
