HAVANA, December 13 (Luis Viño Zimerman) Iluminada Cáceres
Aparicio, 89, suffered a heart attack as agents of the Department of State
Security came to arrest her son, dissident Ramón Ávila Cáceres,
64, at their home November 29.
Ávila, along with the policemen, took his mother to the "Clínico
Quirúrgico" hospital, where doctors diagnosed a miocardial
infarction. Cáceres died at 5 p.m. The autopsy report listed the cause of
death as "encephalic vascular complications" and "sudden
meningoencephalitis."
Ávila said that when he asked the specialists about the odd
determination of the cause of death, he was told: "That's the way it is; if
you are not in agreement, talk to the ones who helped you bring her here."
Ávila said: "The State Security agents provoked my mother's
death; it is evident that their presence in my house caused the attack she
suffered. Not content with that, they manipulated the true cause of death to
evade responsibility."
