HAVANA, August 21 (María del Carmen Carro, UPECI) Residents of Regla, a town across the bay from Havana proper, are protesting because they have no running water and the government trucks it in only once a week.
According to María de los Ángeles González, neighbors recently proposed marching on the offices of the Popular Power (local government) beating pots and pans to demand a solution to the long-standing problem. Others took to the streets yelling "Strike! We can't take
this situation anymore." They refused to carry the water from the supply trucks which, they said, were too far away.
González said that in spite of the outburst, the authorities did not seem to take notice of the incident.
