WASHINGTON, Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The following was issued by the Cuban American National Foundation:
It is a sad and shameful day when the INS chooses to throw an award ceremony for the very agents who brutally attacked a peaceful and defenseless family over Easter weekend. According to CANF Executive Director Joe Garcia, ``instead of spending $25,000 for a party, INS should use these taxpayer
funds to send these agents to remedial training on their duty to protect and defend our citizens, not terrorize them.'' As for their superiors in the Clinton Administration INS and Justice Department, this time should be used to reflect on the thought that had this exact assault occurred in Cuba or
Iran, the United States Government would properly have condemned the action as a gross violation of human rights. Instead of emulating the tactics of Fidel Castro, our Justice Department should stand for something better.
The Cuban American National Foundation believes that pointing a gun at a child's head in a pre-dawn raid is cause for contrition and the institution of firm regulations on the use of excessive force against peaceful citizens, not a cause for celebration.
