HAVANA, August 7 (Mijail Varzaga Lugo, ANC) Raising pigeons has lately found itself threatened by the scarcity of feed, which enthusiasts must procure in the black market to feed their birds.
The grains most often fed to pigeons, corn, peas, barley and wheat, are tightly controlled by the government, so breeders look in the black market at about three pesos per pound.
They also have to contend with often finding themselves under close police scrutiny, because it is well known that tons of the grains are stolen from the State every year to be sold as feed.
