French Buses Hard On Cuban Passengers

HAVANA, August 7 (Maité Vázquez González, ANC) – The urban bus company in Havana is using French buses made by Renault that prove suffocating in the city’s tropical climate.

Inside these buses, built to shelter against European weather, Cubans swelter in the summer heat due to lack of air conditioning, shuttered windows, and invariably crowded buses, gasping for what little breeze comes through the sunroof openings overhead.

Residents have few options amid the steadily worsening transportation crisis that started in 1990. Passengers routinely pass out and suffer attacks of claustrophobia inside the buses.
