He Is Not Crazy, Just A Dissident

HAVANA, July 31 (María del Carmen Carro, UPECI) - Authorities released dissident Miguel López Santos after subjecting him to a battery of tests at the Mazorra psychiatric hospital in Havana.

López was carrying anti-government posters and flyers when he was arrested July 13. State Security agents took him to the psychiatric hospital to be evaluated.

López said: "When I got there they put me in a ward with the crazies. The bathrooms are plugged-up and the inmates are dirty. Yet, the food is good."

"After more than ten tests, the chief doctor evaluated me as not showing signs of dementia. Immediately they took me to State Security headquarters and, on July 20, the prosecutor, José Ávila released me after warning me that ‘Posters can only be placed in enclosed spaces.’"
