PINAR DEL RIO, June 6 (Víctor Rolando Arroyo, UPECI) - Officers of
the Department of State Security in Pinar del Río province arrested eight
Cuban environmental activists as they prepared to celebrate Earth day.
Officers arrested the eight June 4 as they prepared to set out on an
excursion; it wasn't immediately apparent where the environmentalists were
taken. About 20 members of the group who managed to evade the arrests attended a
lecture sponsored by the group at a farm in the outskirts of the "Manuel
Lazo" township.
