Disease Vector Breeding In Pinar del Río

PINAR DEL RIO, September 17 (Victor Rolando Arroyo, UPECI) - Several breeding grounds of the Aedes aegyptii mosquito have been found in the vicinity of the railroad station in the city of Pinar del Río.

The mosquito is a vector for yellow fever, dengue and other diseases. Since last November, controls have been applied in the province to prevent the spread of the mosquitoes from Havana province, where it is plentiful.

The first breeding point was found August 31 in the Hotel de Pinar del Río, near the Guamá river.

Extra-official sources say there are chemical products in the province to prevent the spread of the mosquitoes, but didn’t say how much of the chemicals are in inventory.
