HAVANA, June 22 (Juan González) More than 100 police along with officials of the National Housing Institute evicted residents of 15 houses in the residential area of Santa Fe Beach in the city of Havana.
Some of the houses were home to more than one family, and the exact number of those evicted is unknown.
The government ordered the evictions to award the houses to officers of the Cuban Navy. The houses are near an exclusive enclave reserved for foreigners called Marina Hemingway. People in the area conclude that the government wanted to surround the enclave with trustworthy cadres.
The evicted families lacked the documentation issued by Cubatécnica or by the National Housing Institute to legally occupy the houses.
Officials of the Institute gave residents 72 hours to abandon their homes, without right of appeal.
