LAS TUNAS, June 13 (Fermín Luis Valdés, Agencia Libertad) – Surgeons confused hydrochloric acid with antiseptic iodine solution during a routine hernia operation, leaving a patient with burns all over her abdominal cavity.

Idalmis Pérez Marrero, 43, is in the Intensive Care ward at the Ernesto Guevara hospital as a result of the burns received on May 24.

Sources in the hospital who revealed what happened in the operating room said hospital administrators initially tried to conceal the information from the patient and her family.
