HAVANA, May 31 (Lucas Garve, CPI) Ground-up peas or wheat, added to coffee to augment its volume, makes coffee makers explode, say technicians in the field.
The ersatz coffee is sold in small packets to the population under the governments rationing system. The additives render the coffee tasteless and Cubans refer to it by various names, including No-es-cafe, in a play on words on the Nestlé brand Nescafe.
Real, first class coffee can be obtained freely in the government dollar stores.
