HAVANA, June - Edenio Herrera went to the "Luis de la Puente Uceda" polyclinic to get a head wound sutured. The doctor issued the order to suture but said he couldn't do it because his arm hurt. The nurse said she couldn't suture the wound either. Herrera left.
He decided to try another facility, the "Clínico Quirúrgico 26." There he went the same route; doctor, nurse, a half hour wait for the attendant to get sterilized instruments and sew up two patients ahead of him.
When it was finally his turn the nurse wanted to shave his head with a razor that was full of hair. He refused and she rinsed it under the faucet.
Now he is wondering where he is going to go to get the sutures removed. "If I could, I'd keep them... I really don't want to get tangled up in the same labyrinth twice."
