New NGO formed for political prisoners

HAVANA, March 2 (Shelyn Rojas / www.cubanet.org) - A new non-governmental organization named Commission for the Attention of Political Prisoners and their Families was founded last week.

Froilán Osmany Rodríguez Sánchez, president of the NGO, said, "Since November of 2005 a small group of activists decided to undertake this project to look after political prisoners and their families, thus expressing to them our spiritual support and unconditional solidarity."

The NGO's constitution was decided upon February 19 at a meeting in the home of its vice-president, Lázaro Prieto Álvarez.

Those present at the founding meeting included Sergio Pastor Martínez Carrazana, Ricardo Aguilar García, Cristóbal Soriano Argudín, Pedro Leonel Ordoñez, José Lorenzo Pérez Fidalgo and Daniel Mesa Castillo.
