Pope: Cuba must open to
the world and open the heart to god

(AGI) - Vatican State, Feb 15 - "Cuba
must open to the world and the world must
open to Cuba". Pope Benedict XVI repeated
today the appeal of John Paul II during
his visit to Cuba, in a letter he sent to
cardinal Jaime Lucas Ortega y Alamino, archbishop
of San Cristobal de La Habana and president
of the Cuban Episcopal Conference, for the
XX anniversary of the Cuban national ecclesiastic
meeting (Enec).
"An opening - wrote the Pope - that
implies the verification of how to open
heart and will to the things of God; how
to mutually open towards our neighbours,
believing and confiding one in the other,
despite there are different ways of thinking
and different beliefs: and finally, how
to open in a world context, with the challenges
of its possibilities and difficulties at
the same time".
According to Benedict XVI, this can only
be achieved "through the look of God,
a loving look" capable of "reaching
the truth of every person, of every group
and of those that live in the same land".
A great help can derive from the experience
of praying "in the silence and humility
of every day's work, in the faithfulness
to the professed religion, in the implicit
and explicit announcement of the Gospel".
The Pope sends to the Priests, the religious
people and the believers his regards and
his "spiritual vicinity". He invites
them to "discover through the experiences
the signs and the signals of the God that
walks with you. He walks with all those
that live on this earth, believers and non
believers, those who are close and those
who are far". (AGI)
