Police confiscate farmer's home-built tractor
SANTA CLARA, Cuba - November 28 (Benito
Key, Cubanacán Press / www.cubanet.org)
- A farmer who had built a tractor from
spare parts had it confiscated after police
stopped him November 22.
Ricardo Betancourt was driving into Aguada
de Pasajeros in Cienfuegos province when
officer Raúl Gonzalo stopped him,
searched him, and took him and his tractor
to the police station.
Once there, authorities informed Betancourt
that the tractor would be confiscated since
he couldn't produce papers to justify his
ownership.
Betancourt said he couldn't have had papers
because he had built the tractor out of
parts scavenged primarily from abandoned
vehicles.
