Man loses job as elevator because of his political views

MATANZAS, Cuba, April 19 (Oscar Sánchez Madan / www.cubanet.org) - The government's housing authority cancelled a job offer to Rafael Moreno Rodriguez as an elevator operator when it learned he was a political dissident.

Moreno, 41, showed up to start to work as an elevator operator in the building in which he lived only to be told by the administrator that an agreement he had signed was no longer in force. He was told he didn't meet government requirements for the job.

"It was evidently a political move since I don't share the official ideology," Moreno said.

Moreno is a delegate of the Alternative Option Independent Movement in the Matanzas municipality.
