Dissident arrested, home searched by police

HAVANA, April 17 (Juan Carlos Linares Balmaseda / www.cubanet.org) - A dozen policemen arrived at dawn one day last week, arrested activist Alberto Michel Martínez Llerena, 26, a member of the November 30 Frank Pais Democratic Party, and spent an hour searching the home where he lived with his parents.

Also residing in the home are his sister, Raiza Martínez Llerena, who is party secretary, and her husband, Raivel Sánchez Calvo, also an officer of the party.

One of the police officials at the scene told Martinez's parents that he was accused of car theft.

The police seized various agricultural implements used by his father, who cultivates a small parcel of land.
