Wife and sister of imprisoned journalist
strip searched
CIEGO DE AVILA, Cuba, April 11 (Roberto
Pérez, Agencia Patria / www.cubanet.org)
Lidia Lores and her sister-in-law, Clara
Lourdes Prieto Llorente, say they were forced
to completely disrobe and undergo a body
search before being permitted to visit Lores'
imprisoned husband, independent journalist
Fabio Prieto Llorente.
The incident occurred March 29 at the Guayabo
Prison on the Isle of Pines, where Prieto
Llorente is serving a 20-year sentence,
meted out in 2003.
Prieto Llorente's wife called the Cuban
Foundation of Human Rights to report that
she and her husband's sister had been subjected
to body searches.
"I'm prepared to support this humiliation
and many others that they're capable of
practicing in an attempt to prevent me from
seeing my brother," Clara Lourdes Prieto
Llorente said.
