Journalist threatened with arrest under
Law 88
HAVANA, March 31 (Richard Roselló

Leonor Díaz Chamizo, director
of the Grupo de Trabajo Decoro independent
news agency, was picked up by police last
weekend and threatened under Law
88, under which a person with consorting
with the enemy.
The independent journalist was taken last
Saturday by members of a Search and Capture
Brigade to police headquarters in the Havana
municipality of Cerro.
"They warned me not to continue writing,"
she said afterwards. She said they told
here that reprisals could be taken against
her family.
Díaz Chamizo had worked for the
official Prensa Latina news agency in Washington
and New York, but quit in 2000 to become
an independent journalist.
