Waste water invades houses

HOLGUIN, Cuba - August 3 (Liannis Meriño Aguilera, Jóvenes sin Censura / www.cubanet.org) - Residents of the township of Las Delicias, in Las Tunas province, have been complaining strenuously about the sanitary danger posed by waste waters that sometimes invade houses in the town. They say sanitary and water and sewer authorities do not heed their complaints.

Melba Santana, a resident of the Vista Alegre subdivision, said fetid black waters that attract vermin regularly flow into several houses.

Santana said residents have complained repeatedly to the water and sewer authority about the general decrepitude of the sewer system, but have been told the province doesn't have the resources to invest in the system.

Residents, Santana said, are especially irate because they have to pay for the service every month.
