Fired cart driver charges politics is behind his dismissal

SANTA CLARA, Cuba - September 5 (Guillermo Fariñas Hernández, Cubanacán Press / www.cubanet.org) - A man fired from his job at a government-run food distribution facility for nepotism, charged the real reason for his dismissal is that he is a dissident.

Julio César Montes was fired August 31 from the "Rolando Abreu" unit of the Municipal Food Enterprise. The company's human resources chief, Maria Victoria Abreu, told him she had direct orders from company director Rafael Mederos to fire him because his (Montes') wife worked in the facility's warehouse.

Montes said he was fired for political reasons. "I think State Security is behind this. The Communist Party knows I'm an opponent of the government."
