Alcoholics Anonymous group observes 4th Anniversary

SANTA CLARA, Cuba - September 5 ( Feliberto Pérez del Sol, Cubanacán Press / www.cubanet.org) - The "Uniendo Orillas" group of Alcoholics Anonymous celebrated on August 29th the fourth anniversary of its founding in Santa Clara.

Nearly 30 persons, along with relatives and members of other groups from the city, met in a medical facility to celebrate.

The speakers said they had been alcoholics and spoke about their lives before joining AA. Family members also spoke about the changes they had observed in the addicts' behaviour.

The members closed the ceremony with a pledge to help all who request it.

Alcoholics Anonymous reached Santa Clara 13 years ago, and there are now 10 groups functioning in the city. The "Uniendo Orillas" group is the only one who has access to a government facility, the rest meet in churches.
