Human rights activists harassed by police
HOLGUÍN, Cuba,
October 13 (Manuel Verdecia Torres, Jóvenes
sin Censura / www.cubanet.org) - Agents
from the National Revolutionary Police,
accompanied by inspectors from the Tax Office,
fined two brothers who operate a food stand
and threatened to withdraw their permit
if they continued their advocacy of human
rights.
The González Rodríguez brothers
were fined 400 and 1,200 - the average monthly
salary in Cuba is just above 200 pesos -
for selling foodstuffs made from corn flour.
The agents inspected 13 other men who were
selling similar products on their own in
the area but none was fined.
