Housing office files damaged in flood

HAVANA, Cuba -June 22 (José Antonio Fornaris, Cuba Verdad / www.cubanet.org) - Thousands of files pertaining to housing in Old Havana was damaged over the weekend after rainwater flooded an office of the city Historian.

Wednesday, the files, stored in cardboard boxes, had still not been allowed to dry and there was standing water on the floor.

The housing office located on historic Obispo Street, had been recently repaired. Rainwater appears to have flooded under doors opening onto an interior passageway.

An employee said the files had just been transferred to the office, explaining why the files were still sitting on the floor in cardboard boxes.

The files contain all the available information about each building in the city and are necessary for all bureaucratic transactions concerning the buildings.
