Dissident knifed by strangers

(HAVANA, Cuba, January 18 / Puenteinfocubamiami.org) - On January 15 three men tried to murder Lucas Raúl Pérez Pérez, a 38 years old opponent and delegate in Camagüey of The Democratic Party November 30 "Frank País", declared sources of the opposition.

"The strangers viciously attacked the dissident, they stabbed him and kicked him as he laid in the floor, then flew the scene as onlookers contemplated the beating", read the note.

"The attackers stabbed him in the abdomen and the forearm", declared to Lux Info Press Antonia Pérez Ruiz, mother of the opponent, who pointed out that her son was admitted to the municipal hospital without police protection and that his condition is listed as serious.

According to sources, the opponent was also battered by a group of strangers on May 29th 1999, and had to be admitted in the same hospital with serious lesions in his skull. The identity of the thugs is still unknown.

"I suspect that in this occasion the criminals won't be punished either", added the 54 years old mother.
