Seamstress in Cuba denied employment for her religious beliefs

PINAR DEL RÍO, Cuba, January 5 (Rafael Ferro Salas, Abdala Press / www.cubanet.org) A 29-year-old seamstress in Pinar del Río said she was denied a job at a local sewing shop on account of her religious beliefs.

"They said I was not trustworthy to work there because I am a Jehovah's Witness," said Ismari de Armas, referring to administrators of a State-owned sewing shop.

"That was the only explanation they gave me," said de Armas. "I have a 9-year-old daughter to feed."
