Vehicular accidents kill 73 in first 10 months of 2004

HAVANA, January 5 (www.cubanet.org) - During the first 10 months of last year, 73 people were killed and another 329 injured in vehicular accidents in Cuba, according to figures released by the National Transit Division.

The agency blamed maintenance and poor driving for the accidents.

Many of the accidents involved trucks carrying passengers, wagons pulled by horses and bicycles and pedicabs, as a result of a shortage of mass transit vehicles.

Last September Cuba hosted the International Commercial Transportation Fair at which 73 companies from 19 countries showed their vehicles.
